These monuments were one meter
high, designed by Paul Moreau Vauthier and placed along the 960 kilometers of
the Western Front to mark the limit of the German Advance in 1918. They were
placed beside main roads and crossroads and were paid for by Touring Clubs of
France and Belgium. (Coombs, 1976)
